Abstract

This study explores the experiences of environmental psychology experts in Colombia. Through semi-structured interviews with 13 psychologists working from an environmental psychology perspective, we examined the development, challenges, and impact of the discipline in the country. Using a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic design, thematic content analysis was conducted using ATLAS.ti software. Findings reveal that environmental psychology is characterized by its interdisciplinary and applied approach, addressing the bidirectional interaction between people and their environment. Key concerns in the field include climate change, environmental degradation, environmental justice, and public space planning. Regarding academic training, a limited and fragmented educational landscape was identified, marked by isolated faculty efforts and minimal presence in university curricula, though notable progress includes the establishment of a master's program at Universidad Surcolombiana. Challenges identified include lack of institutional recognition, concentration of studies in urban settings, and the need for more integrative conceptual frameworks. The study underscores the urgency of consolidating environmental psychology in Colombia through enhanced institutionalization, strengthened academic training, and effective engagement with local environmental issues.
