Soluciones naturalmente enriquecedoras: un enfoque integrador para el tratamiento de la depresión

Resumen

El Trastorno Depresivo Mayor (TDM) constituye una de las principales causas de discapacidad global y requiere ser comprendido desde una perspectiva integradora que considere factores biológicos, psicológicos, sociales y ambientales. Este artículo teórico propone que el estilo de vida moderno —caracterizado por el estrés crónico, el aislamiento, la urbanización acelerada y la desconexión con la naturaleza— configura entornos depresógenos que favorecen la aparición, mantenimiento y agravamiento de los síntomas depresivos. A partir de un análisis teórico integrativo, se argumenta que las intervenciones naturalmente enriquecidas —como el enriquecimiento ambiental, los ambientes restaurativos y las terapias basadas en naturaleza— representan alternativas costo-efectivas, accesibles y con alto potencial de replicabilidad. Estas estrategias han demostrado beneficios en la regulaciónemocional, la neuroplasticidad y el bienestar psicosocial. Se propone un modelo teórico integrador y aplicado que articula diversas perspectivas para abordar el TDM desde intervenciones naturalmente enriquecidas, destacando el modelo costarricense FloreSer como ejemplo clínico-comunitario. El trabajo concluye con lineamientos generales para la investigación y la política pública en saludmental, orientados a fomentar espacios vivos y colectivos que promueven el florecimiento humano.

Daniel Arroyo-Zúñiga, Universidad de Costa Rica, San José, Costa Rica

Licenciado en Psicología por la Universidad de Costa Rica y se desempeña como investigador en el  Instituto de Investigaciones Psicológicas de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Sus líneas de investigación se centran en la comprensión de los procesos biopsicológicos, con énfasis en la interacción entre lo neurobiológico, lo psicológico y lo contextual, así como en el estudio del uso de sustancias psicoactivas, el bienestar y el potencial terapéutico de enfoques innovadores como los psicodélicos desde una perspectiva transdiagnóstica e integradora. Daniel mantiene un perfil activo en investigación y publicaciones académicas.

Licenciada en Psicología por la Universidad de Costa Rica. Ha participado como asistente de investigación en el Instituto de Investigaciones Psicológicas de la Universidad de Costa Rica y ha colaborado en proyectos de acción social y responsabilidad social universitaria vinculados a la Vicerrectoría de Acción Social de dicha institución. Sus principales líneas de investigación e interés profesional incluyen los enfoques feministas en psicología, la psicoterapia narrativa, el análisis crítico de los contextos socioculturales en la salud mental y el uso de metodologías cualitativas y participativas en investigación e intervención psicológica.

Profesor catedrático de la Escuela de Psicología, subdirector y coordinador del Grupo de Investigación en Biopsicología del Instituto de Investigaciones Psicológicas, subdirector e investigador del Centro de Investigación en Neurociencias de la Universidad de Costa Rica y subdirector del posgrado en Ciencias Cognoscitivas. Doctor en Psicología Biológica y Experimental con énfasis en neurociencia conductual de la Universidad Phillips de Marburg, en Alemania; bachiller y licenciado en Psicología de la Universidad Católica de Costa Rica; y Técnico en Ciencias de Animales de Laboratorio por la Universidad de Costa Rica. Su investigación se centra en el estudio de la plasticidad neuroconductual en respuesta a factores de protección (ejercicio y estimulación sensoriomotora y social) y adversidad psicosocial (estrés crónico y deprivación social) y sobre los determinantes biopsicológicos de la obesidad y la dependencia a sustancias psicoactivas.
